First Meal...Rice Cereal

Lyla had her first meal last night, rice cereal. Well it really only equated to a couple of bites but oh so cute. She had it everywhere. I am not sure if it was because Dad was feeding her or if she really was that messy. She still needs to figure out how to chew most of the time she was just sucking on the spoon. At one point she was sucking on the bowl. All in all I think she was much more interested to get back to her bottle.

Photoshoot Preview

Saturday we had our pictures taken by Nancy Noble. A fabulous photographer from the Portland area. She was the same photographer that shot the pics of Claire and Lyla a month back. I was a little nervous about how they were going to turn out since I had two sickys on my hands but they are amazing as you can see for yourself. I can't wait to see the rest!

Grandma Stajgr comes for a visit!

My mom came up to visit this weekend which is always a treat. She drove up Saturday morning which worked out well since we were heading to the waterfront to get a few family portraits shot. She went for a walk while we worked on getting a few smiles out of Lyla. After our shoot we went to lunch at the Ram (lemon drops and burgers my favorite!). It was a pretty exhausting morning for all of us so that afternoon Danny, Lyla and I all took naps (my mom didn't but she worked on adding a little keepsake to one of the blankets she made for Lyla). That evening we walked over to Rielda's (danny's mom) to have dinner. That was of course fun. Lyla loves hanging out with her cousins Wriley and Ruby. Sunday morning we went for a walk around the north end and met up with Katie (my new neighbor and childhood BFF...I am so lucky to have her down the street) for breakfast at the Hobnob. Lyla did great and was such a ham for all the ladies in the resturant. That afternoon we did a little shopping and had a trip to the fabric store. My mom is going to make Lyla a gorgeous Christmas dress this year. Here are a few pictures courtesy of my mom from the weekend. Pretty cute!

Lyla's 4 month check up

Lyla had her four month check up yesterday. She weighted in 15lbs 8ozs and measured 25.5inches. She has grown so much since she was born. The doctor as alway checked on her development, bones, heartbeat, ears and throat. He did find that she was a little swollen in her throat so it was probably sore. Danny and I have both been fighting a similar cold so it wasn't a surprise. We also found out that Lyla is in the 95th percential for height, the 90th percential for weight and 75th-80th (average) for head circumference. Lyla also had her second round of shots. My least favorite part of the experience (and hers to). Danny came along special for this part (I am to whimpy) he had to hold her down while the nurse gave her three pokes. She let out one scream but then she was soon calm again. My poor baby. She did get back at the doctor though...when he picked her up and held her above his head playing she spit up a little on him and his tie. All in all we have a healthy, social, well developed little girl!

Lyla's French Friend

Sophie the giraffe is Lyla's French friend. She goes everywhere that we go and Lyla loves her. My favorite thing about her is that she is classic. No extra bells and whistle. Lyla can hold her easily in her hands and I am pretty sure every part of Sohpie has been in Lyla's mouth. Sophie even speaks some french..at least in our house. Three years of french in high school is starting to come in handy. Of course I think I am going to have to have a refresher course. I think this a must have toy. I purchased it at Land of Nod (my favorite store as I've mentioned before) but I know it is sold everywhere. It is a bit on the spendy side but well worth it. I think sophie might be getting a twin just so we have back up :)

Shopping Weekend

This Saturday Sara, Lyla and I went shopping. First we had to drop Danny off in Kent for a refing seminar. We started at Ikea with breakfast. Ikea has amazingly cheap breakfasts. Sara and I each got eggs, bacon, french toast, potatoes, a cinnamon roll and juice for only $5.50 total, not 5.50 each, TOTAL! When Ikea finally opened we were off. I got a little bit more christmas shopping done which always feels good. I think I may be over 1/2 way there now. (I am (or was) a bit paniced this season since we have this 'new' expense so I've been sprending out my shopping.) Then we headed over to South Center. We didn't get to far because we had to pick Danny up but the last picture is of Sara and I in H&M. I purchased this hat for Danny. It is a little silly but you know how Danny is. :) All in all a fun girls days.

PMG Boat Trip 2009 & First Parental Mishap

Tim Reding of Reding Construction, a client of ours at premier media group, each year graciously takes our team out on the puget sound. This is the fourth year I've gone. We motor around and then stop somewhere for lunch. This year our lunch stop was tides tavern. It is always a ton of fun and a perfect way to end the week and spend a friday afternoon. This day was also our first parental miscommunciation. I didn't relay to Danny that I was going to be picking up Lyla late from Chelly's (our daycare Monday, Wednesday, Friday). She called me because she was checking to see which formula I used and since I was out of touch she called Danny. He paniced that something had happened to me since I didn't pick Lyla up on time (not knowing that I had already made arrangements with Chelly) and the whole thing exploded. He drove into town to pick Lyla up. He was frantic something had happened to me. Of course nothing had. I felt awful. I didn't think to tell him because I was going to be picking her up way before he came home. Lesson definitely learned. Always carry cell phone and always give husband play by play when it has do with your child. Thankfully the evening ended well and we spent a quiet evening at home with carry out from Fujiya our favorite sushi restaurant.

Exploring and finding new things

Lyla is at the beginning of a life time of exploration and learning. As with most babies everything goes into the mouth at this stage. It is then slobbered on and then thrown down. It is fun to see her study and observe everything. She is constantly watching and sometimes I think she has already sized you up the moment she meets you. If only we could be preview to what they are thinking... And right now toes are HUGE. She still hasn't figured out how to get those in her mouth but it won't be long. Babies and children are just fascinating to me. I don't think they are ever credited enough for their brilliance. They know. And it won't be long before they will tell you.

Miscarriage

Dear friends of ours lost a baby yesterday in a miscarriage. They were about 2 months along. My heart goes out to them. The minute I found out I wanted to rush home and hug Lyla. After having her the thought of losing her instantly brings me to tears. When I was pregnant I constantly worried about losing her, I think every mother does, but I didn't know if I would be strong enough to handle it if we did. I can't imagine having to go through what they are going through right now. They are such wonderful people they don't deserve this. No one deserves to go through something like this. Just a few weekends ago we were sitting with them sharing all our crazy adventures, preparing them for the unpreparable. Thankfully (on a more positive note) I know they are going to be parents someday (great parents!) and I believe very soon. This just wasn't the right time. For now please keep our friends in your prayers as they try to move past this and begin trying again.

Lyla's Sleeping in her room

Well Lyla has officially graduated to her crib! She has spent the last two nights there and has done wonderfully. Mom on the other hand not so well. The first night I had horrible nightmares. The second I was actually kind of sad but I have to say it is nice to have my room back. The bassinet was taking up half our bedroom. In the morning I would have to squeeze around it just to get to my closet. That wasn't the reason she moved rooms though. Sadly she is just growing too fast and the bassinet was getting too small for her. If she moved at night I could hear her hitting the sides with her fists or feet. I felt it was waking her up and we long for her to sleep the entire night. She is pretty good now...8pm to about 3-4am...then a quick snack and back to sleep but it would be so nice if she didn't need that snack :)

Summers Over...

Labor day weekend is always the final tournament of the season for us. It is three days, it starts Saturday and goes into Monday. It is hosted by the Emerald Valley Ski Club at Mint Lake. This year the tournament was exceptionally crazy. It poured the entire weekend. I mean POURED! Danny and I both felt it was definitely the wettest tournament either of us have ever been to. The real crazy part was everyone skied. Usually you have a few people who throw up their hands and say "forget this," but they didn't and for as cold as it was and wet as it was we really had a great time...even Lyla had a good time. By Monday we were all ready to go home, Lyla especially. I guess summer is officially over...sad.
